I recently read on another blogger’s page that she hates to “waste” the nicer items in her closet by wearing them on ordinary days. While I’m trying to break away from that mentality, I can identify with her unnecessary feelings of guilt. I often neglect the boldest, brightest accessories in my closet, leaving them to collect dust until the “right” event rolls around for me to don them. After having avoided wearing them for weeks, I then feel overwhelmed when putting together an ensemble for a nice occasion because I want to wear every opulent piece I own. How ridiculous is that?
The Ardent Daisy Necklace from Anthropologie is one of those items. I tend to wear statement pieces like this only when I’m going to a wedding or a nice dinner in uptown Charlotte, but why shouldn’t they make it into my everyday ensembles? I decided to add a statement of shimmer to this simple outfit by pairing a classic pointelle sweater and jeans with sparkly flats and a glittery daisy pendant. And you know what? The fanciest thing I did all day was take my mom to a physical therapy session.
Tragically, I totally destroyed this ridiculously comfortable pointelle cardigan when I snagged it on a nail and kept on walking, creating a big hole that I wouldn’t begin to know how to fix with such a delicate fabric! At least I captured its snuggly feel photographically before ruining it.
Cami: Mossimo (Target)

How have you added a touch of class to an otherwise simple outfit with statement pieces? Tell me about it!
