If you read my last post, then you know that I am on a mission to make the most of the sadly forgotten items in my closet that I rarely wear.
At this time last year, I was in a completely different mode than I am this year. While my days are currently filled with freelance writing and blogging, in addition to making sure that my mom gets to her physical therapy and radiation appointments, they were previously filled with teaching students, planning lessons, and grading papers.
I bought Vanessa Virginia’s Floral Squared Shoulder Top last season because it was appropriate for teaching but also had a unique cut that was very different than any of my other “teaching tops.” Obviously wearing these denim shorts in the classroom would have likely gotten me fired, so I styled the top quite differently in the past, pairing it with a pencil skirt or a tailored pair of dress pants.
I’ve neglected many of my “teacher clothes” this summer because, well, I’m not a teacher right now. However, pairing this top with white cut-off shorts makes this look entirely different than any of the ensembles I put together back when I was teaching.
I’m slowly learning that the clothes in which I used to teach don’t need to remain at the back of my closet until a time when I have a more structured job environment; wearing them with more casual pieces makes for a laid-back look that’s polished without being overdressed, perfect for performing simple, everyday tasks.
